Aluminum semi-rigid or wire bound foil flex?
« on: September 23, 2009, 02:52:14 PM »
Basically there are three different types of transition hoses available to purchase and install between the dryer and the in-the-wall exhaust system.  Namely, the white vinyl spiral bound, the spiral bound multi-ply foil flexible duct and the semi-rigid flexible aluminum duct.  Absolutely do not use the white vinyl spiral bound flex as it is very unsafe and prohibited by most building codes and appliance manufacturers specifications.

In fact, even the foil flex is highly discouraged as it's been known to not contain a fire and definitely creates plenty of resistance to airflow due to the material actually collapsing into the interior of the pipe, lessening the diameter by about .75".

The best way to demonstrate the different transition hoses on the market is with this video.  It is well done and goes over every advantage and disadvantage of the different types of flex hose.

I'm very impressed with the  pattern of product innovations and product improvements by DryerBox.com, for example the recent introduction of DryerFlex duct.

I believe that your post of Sept 23, 2009 may have been written before Dryer Flex was introduced.  Perhaps an update to your post refering to DryerFlex is in order.

Similarly, I think video found at the following URL is out of date as it doesn't mention DryerFlex.  http://www.dryerbox.com/flex_hose_tips.htm

The DryerBox.com website has a video that covers all three of the metallic based ducts.  This may be a good replacement for the URL mentioned above.
