Dryer Box Question - Oval hole in a model 400?
« on: March 08, 2012, 10:56:12 AM »
Hello,
We just bought a DB 400 Dryerbox and wondered why the hole was oval and not round? Thanks.

Good question Pam.
The 400 is for installs into a 2x4 framed wall where the space or wall depth is only 3.5" deep.  To get 4" dryer duct to fit, it has to be deformed or ovaled.  Likewise the oval hole.

If your wall was deeper than 3.5" (2x6 framed) then our model 500 retrofit box would be the preferred receptacle because it has a round hole or port.

The retro boxes are for installs where the drywall is in place and the desire is to do minimal to no drywall work and this usually means that your conditions are just right and you have accomplished some investigative work.

Good pictures and stories at the lower section of our Photo Gallery at this link.

Hope this helps.
