Exterior Termination
« on: January 01, 2015, 08:04:46 PM »

I live in a cold climate.  When using the standard dryer vent termination (free-flapping door), the exhaust hits the flapper door and it blows down and back against the house causing the condensation to condense and freeze on the house, the bottom of the deck, and a cantilevered section of the home where the sun doesn't shine to melt it.  Is there a termination that allows the exhaust to blow outwards (away from the house), yet completely seals out back-drafts and keep critters out?

Any thoughts are welcomed.

Well, I am biased to our premium metal vent, and feel it will not deflect the air down.  But it does not completely block back drafts, as there is about a 1/16" gap around the area where the damper rests against the internal collar.  I think some air needs to get back into the house for some of the appliances, fireplace and furnaces that require makeup air to minimize Co2 poisoning.
